The Sun - Nursery and Kindergarten II

First Opening prayer - The Spiritist Volunteer will bring the book LEARNING HOW TO PRAY - A BOOK OF PRAYERS FOR CHILDREN by Elsa Rossi. The following story will be told:

         My Morning Prayer

         Dear Jesus!

Thank you for the quiet night and nice dreams that I had.

Thank you for the beautiful day that is breaking.

I wanted to ask you my dear Jesus, that you protect my Mum, my Dad, my Brothers and Sisters and all of us this day.

I know my dear friend Jesus, that when we talk to you early I the morning, our day becomes much better!

Thank you, Jesus for protecting us today.

The Spiritist worker will introduce a box of prayer after the story and will ask for one child to volunteer himself/herself to read the prayer for the class. Please ask the child to say his/her words as well, as to complement the opening prayer.

Second: Welcome the children into the session. Say how happy we are to see them there and how important they are for the class. Sing songs together; get the children to remain standing but in a circle.

         My God is so Big

         My God is so Big
         So strong and so mighty
There is nothing that He cannot do (2x)

         The rivers are His
         The mountains are His
The stars are His handy work too

+++ sing other songs from the songs’ list as per attached here.

Third: Talk to the children about the topic of the day

Today we are going to talk about the sun; that wonderful star!

Who was the fantastic Creator of the sun?

Yes, it was God, Who also Created the moon, all the others stars in the sky and the planets. He is the Creator of everything around the world, including us.

What God created the sun for? The Spiritist worker can bring pictures and use them, as the children would be giving their answers.

The volunteer will bring pictures of the sun in a power point and the kids will be asked to answer the benefits of the sun and also how do we have to protect ourselves during hot days. Please find a suggested powerpoint to be used here, with pictures taken from the internet.

Fourth: Cinema time – show them the following Youtube videos.

         Fifth: Activity time.

The volunteer will show the poster of the sun and the moon, after the videos are watched by the children. The kids will have to answer when which one appears during the day.

The volunteer will bring a big clock and the children will be asked to answer the position of the sun and the moon at each time.

Where’s the sun at this time of the day?

Where’s the moon at this time of the day?

Is it light or dark when the sun comes up in the sky?

Is it light or dark when the moon comes up in the sky?

Sixth: Activity - Glue the sun and the moon.

Each child will receive a picture of the sun and the moon as well as a yellow and blue paper to work with.

Seventh: Prepare the class for the history: ”The sun light”.

Eighth: Talk to the children about the story

         - Ask them what they can remember that was told in the story.

         - Ask them to give examples from the benefits of the sun.

         - Ask the children what are all the nice things we can do when it’s sunny. Stimulate them to mimic these activities.

Ninth: The sun poster - The Volunteers will bring a big poster of the sun and all the kids will be encouraged to colour it together.

Tenth: Get the children to help cleaning the room; one of the children will do a closing prayer; encourage the children to volunteer for this task. If they don’t want to collaborate we could say we will follow the letters of the alphabet. The child’s name that starts with the letter A will do the opening prayer this time. Everybody will have the chance to collaborate.

Please see here below suggested activity to be handed over to the children as homework.
