First: Opening prayer - The Spiritist Volunteer will bring the book LEARNING HOW TO PRAY - A BOOK OF PRAYERS FOR CHILDREN by Elsa Rossi. The following story will be told.

         ‘Prayer for the Love in the World

         Dear Jesus,
         My Dad always starts to pray by asking for protection for the world.
         I want to do just like him and ask you to protect the world and to make love grow in people’s hearts.
         May love be the smile in everybody, the joy of life and this way we all can be good neighbours and live in harmony?
         Please Jesus, help the world to progress towards love!’

         The Spiritist worker will introduce a box of prayer after the prayer and will ask for one child to volunteer himself/herself to read the prayer for the class. Please ask the child to say his/her words as well, as to complement the opening prayer.

         Second: Welcome the children into the session. Say how happy we are to see them there and how important they are for the class. Play hot potato game with the children. When the music stops the child who is holding the hot potato ball will be asked to answer how to respect our family; ask for examples.

         Third: Sing songs together; get the children to remain standing but in a circle.

         Fourth: Tell the children the following story, which is based on the book called ‘A borboleta Azul (o besouro casca dura e outros contos)’.

         Once upon a time there was an eagle. She stole a little pig and took it to the top of a big mountain.

         The mummy pic realised her baby was gone! Where was her little baby??


         She began to ask all animals to help her find her baby, but no one was available. Everyone said they were too busy to help. Oh no!


         The only one who offered to help was the turtle. The other animals were always making fun of the poor turtle!


         But the turtle trusted God. The turtle decided to pray and ask his father, who was already in the spiritual world, to help him find the little pig. The turtle goes, slowly, slowly, climbs on the top of the mountain and saves the little pig!!!! He brings the little pig back to mommy and she thanks him for all his help.

         Fifth: Get the children to retell the story. Get copies of the pages from the story and hand them over to them. Get the children to colour, cut and glue them in order, a small story book. Get them to retell the story according to their understanding.

         Sixth: Get them to play the following game. Bring copies of the duck and the turtle. Get them to colour, cut them and past them into sticks. The volunteer will say phrases out loud and they will need to raise the one that’s acting according to the relevant behaviour.

         - I don’t like sharing my toys
         - I love my mummy.
         - I am very lazy. I don’t like to help.
         - I hug my dad.
         - I help at home with the house work.
         - I am very honest and say the truth.
         - I listen when mummy talks to me.
         - I am naughty at home sometimes.
         - I listen my dad as well.
         - I don’t behave well at home.

         Seventh: Get the children to show how the little duck pig can behave well. How can the pig respect his friend, the mummy pig? Let them draw and show how the little duck should behave.

         Eighth: Role play – two children will role play good behaviour in the family. They will need to show how to behave well in the family (ideas: listening; getting the table ready for lunch; being polite, being nice, be kind; hug one another, one is crying the other hugs; help mum and dad; no shouting).

         Ninth: Get the children to help cleaning the room; one of the children will do a closing prayer; encourage the children to volunteer for this task. If they don’t want to collaborate we could say we will follow the letters of the alphabet. The child’s name that starts with the letter A will do the opening prayer this time. Everybody will have the chance to collaborate.

         Suggested activity to be given as Homework: Please write down or draw how we can respect our family members? Let’s remember the example of our friend, the turtle, from the story!
