Material and Spiritual Belongings for First Cycle
First: Welcome the children into the session. Say how happy we are to see them and how important they are for the class. Explain we will follow the letters of the alphabet in order to choose the volunteer for the opening prayer. So, the child’s name that starts with the letter A will do the opening prayer this time. Everybody will have the chance to collaborate as the weeks passed by.
After that, the Spiritist worker will introduce the “Raffle Box of Prayers”. In your turn, each child will open the box, choose one prayer and read it loudly for whole class. We will do it until all the kids have their chance to choose and read a prayer.
When the activity with the “Raffle box of Prayers” finishes the volunteer will collect the booklet “The Lord’s Prayer” with the children who was responsible in the previous week.
The volunteer can make up a few questions, such as:
* What did you most like in this prayer;
* What could you learn during the week with the prayer and others
The child can also read the prayer for his/hers colleagues. Another child will be able to choose himself/herself to take the booklet home and bring next week, at the end of this activity.
The Lord’s Prayer booklet
P.S. At the end of the class the parents will be informed and also asked about their availability to bring the booklet next week.
Second: Game - Find the world it belongs to: The volunteer will bring a box with many objects and some heart shapes with virtues or pictures on it. The volunteer will also place 2 paper sticks on the table with the following content: Spiritual World and Planet Earth.
Each child in his/her turn should take one thing from the box and place it into the world it belongs to. The volunteer will emphasize the importance of developing/building the virtues in your heart because that is what we will take with us forever.
Third: Video - The lost son or the man who had 2 sons from the DVD Listen.
Fourth: Understanding the parable - The volunteer will have a quickly chat about the video with the children, asking questions like:
Tell me what the son said to his father.
What happen after that?
Do you think the boy made a good choice?
What would you do different from his choice?
Do you think the boy was right in apologising himself?
The volunteer can use some pictures or also ask the children to tell the parable again with their understanding or words.
Explain that material things have a short life expectation; however, the virtues are within us forever. Ask the children to remember good experiences from their lives and how important they were for them.
Fifth: Activity - A small cardboard will be given to each child. They should draw themselves in one paper and glue it in the cardboard. Many blank small heart shapes will be placed on the table. The children should use them in order to write all the goodness they have and everything good they can do at home, at school, with brother/sisters, people,...
Extra Activity:
The children can prepare a big poster with the parable.
They can use the pictures; make some drawings or also write it down.
Sixth: Prayer Activity - The volunteer will discuss with the children the prayer “A Prayer for difficulty” from the book LEARNING HOW TO PRAY – A BOOK OF PRAYERS FOR CHILDREN by Elsa Rossi. Each one will also receive a copy of the prayer.
A Prayer for Difficulty
Yesterday, I watched mummy and daddy seated after dinner when they were reading a pie of papers. I heard mummy saying she was doing accounts, to pay accounts. That was interesting. Then, I heard daddy saying the situation was difficult again.
But I see everything easily.
My dear Jesus, please help daddy to see that everything is easy, like I see it, so he will not be worried about difficulties and can spend more time with me, mummy and my brother and sisters. My dear Jesus, I know that you always protect my family.
I have already learnt to pray for all of us. I am very happy because I already know how to pray.
Dear Jesus, I thank you so very much!
Seventh: Reading Time - Spiritist Books for children will be placed on the table. The child would be invited to share, to read and say what they understand about what they just read.
Eighth: Healing Theatre - The volunteer will bring a sign called: “Good Manners” and will stick it on a chair placed in the middle of the room. Two children will play at each round.
One child will be asked to sit down on the “Good manners’ chair”, meanwhile the other child will have to read a good instructions board.
He/she will receive a Congrats’ stickers if he/she could have good manners as the instruction says!
Ninth: Closing prayer - One of the children will do a closing prayer. Explain we will follow the letters of the alphabet in order to choose the volunteer for the closing prayer. So, the child’s name that starts with the letter B will do the opening prayer this time. Everybody will have the chance to collaborate as the weeks passed by.
