Helping people and doing good

First: Welcome the children into the session. Say how happy we are to see them and how important they are for the class. Explain we will follow the letters of the alphabet in order to choose the volunteer for the opening prayer. So, the child’s name that starts with the letter A will do the opening prayer this time. Everybody will have the chance to collaborate as the weeks passed by.

After that, the Spiritist worker will introduce the “Raffle Box of Prayers”. In your turn, each child will open the box, choose one prayer and read it loudly for whole class. We will do it until all the kids have their chance to choose and read a prayer.

When the activity with the “Raffle box of Prayers” finishes the volunteer will collect the booklet “The Lord’s Prayer” with the children who was responsible in the previous week.

The volunteer can make up a few questions, such as:

         * What did you most like in this prayer;

         * What could you learn during the week with the prayer and others

The child can also read the prayer for his/hers colleagues. Another child will be able to choose himself/herself to take the booklet home and bring next week, at the end of this activity.

         The Lord’s Prayer booklet

P.S. At the end of the class the parents will be informed and also asked about their availability to bring the booklet next week.

Second: The volunteer will discuss with the children about the prayer “Prayer for my friend who is ill” from the book LEARNING HOW TO PRAY – A BOOK OF PRAYERS FOR CHILDREN by Elsa Rossi. Each one will also receive a copy of the prayer.

Prayer for my friend who is ill

         Dear Jesus,
I’d like to pray and ask for your help. I know that you always listen to me and help me.
So, I want to ask your help for my friend who is ill and can’t go to school. He is my best friend.
Can you go to see him and heal him?
I know you can, so I want to thank you for helping my friend to get well soon

Third: Guess what - The volunteer will bring a board and some cards into the class. Good action or sentiments will be written in each card. Each child should choose one card and draw it on the board in his/her turn. Meanwhile, the other kids have to guess what it is.

The volunteer will have a little chat with them afterwards about all the words shown and discuss what each word means for us.

Fourth: Match game - The volunteer will bring pictures of Jesus and people helping each other, as well as blank cards with the subtitle of each picture written underneath. The children should match the correct card and the picture. The volunteer will discuss the importance of Jesus’ teaching for our lives afterwards and how much he taught us to practice good virtues.

Fifth: Video - The volunteer will show the following video: (the boy who shares the bread and fish with Jesus) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaPChCpphU4 Kindergarten Year A Quarter 2 Episode 13 "A Little Boy Shares"

Sixth: Create a Jesus' life book - The volunteer will first explain they will prepare a book with all the stories told and lived by Jesus. Children will be asked to colour the hardcover of the file and also write down a name for the book. The volunteer will then bring the story of the boy printed (please see the pictures below)

The kids should put the pictures of the story in sequence and also write about what happened in each picture. They should put the first story inside of their book as soon as they finish.

         Jesus Feeds Five Thousand

Extra Activity: Learning how to be a boy who shares - The volunteer will bring the drawing of fish and bread that will be distributed to all the kids. Each child will be asked to write on the fish and bread good actions they do in order to help at home, at school and with their friends. They can have more than 2 pictures if they want. One at each time should then read one action and put the drawing inside of a basket which will be placed in the centre of the table.

Seventh: Reading Time - Spiritist Books for children will be placed on the table. The child would be invited to share, to read and say what they see when they are reading.

Eighth: Healing Theatre - The volunteer will bring many pieces of paper with some good and bad instructions. 2 children will participate on the activity at time. 1 child needs to sit down on the chair meanwhile the other will read the instructions. The child who is sat down should follow the instructions told by the colleague.

If these are good instructions the child should stick it on a board created by the volunteer. However, if these are bad instructions the child should throw it in a bin.

Ninth: Closing prayer - One of the children will do a closing prayer. Explain we will follow the letters of the alphabet in order to choose the volunteer for the closing prayer. So, the child’s name that starts with the letter B will do the opening prayer this time. Everybody will have the chance to collaborate as the weeks passed by.
