At the end of the year, the spiritist teacher could organize a content review with the students. This will allow you to know how much the children have learned throughout the year. One very interesting technique is the "Bingo game". This has been designed with questions and answers from the topics which were discussed throughout the year.
The questions should be written in small pieces of paper, which should be folded and placed in a small box. These papers will be raffled; please note the correct answer to each question will be written in some of the bingo cards, but not in all of them.
Hence, in a bingo game where there are 40 questions, for example, we could prepare 20 printable bingo cards with 9 spaces each. We can repeat 18 answers in 4 bingo cards, and 12 answers within 5 bingo cards; this will enable you to have unique bingo cards for this game. It’s not an issue if you haven’t distributed all bingo cards.
Opening Prayer
How to play: Hand out one Bingo card to each child (each card should be different). Please also give them 9 beans, in case you have 9 spaces in the bingo card. You could not just give beans, but buttons or other small objects. Please raffle one question. The children will then place pennies/beans/buttons on the word if it is on their card. Once one of the cards is completed, the child with that card calls out BINGO.
Important note:
1 – Please explain to the children, before starting the game that the person who knows how to win is happy and respects the ones who lost the game. Please mention also that the person who knows how to loose in a right way doesn’t get upset or complain about the game. The teacher can then make some comments in terms of games in general; perhaps talk about excessive or compulsive use of computer and video games that interferes with daily life. You could also mention that problem gambling is another big issue; it is related to any gambling behavior that disrupts your life.
2 – Please mention that everyone can take part on the game, but if someone doesn’t want to play we need to respect the others and have our opinion respected;
3 – Honesty is the virtue of refusing to fake the facts of reality, even when we play a game;
4 – Please ask the questions slowly in order to allow al children to search for the answers on their bingo card. For 1st cycle children, it might be necessary for one of the teachers to help the children to find the answers. This is the right time to review the content which they learned throughout the year;
5 – Prizes could be distributed to the winner. It is interesting, at the end of the game, to distribute a prize to all participants. Perhaps the winner could get a small chocolate bar and the other participants a small sweet;
6 – We could encourage 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. It is important for the child to call out BINGO if the card is completed.
7 – The main objective of this game is to reinforce the concepts studied throughout the year. Every time we use this technique with children and youth it’s been well accepted; no mater what the cycle is.
Here below there is an example of a bingo which was used with children from the 1st cycle:
