The Value of Forgiveness

Henry was a wealthy and power man, who exercised great influence on contemporary society.

He was born into a wealthy family; he never had to work to support himself.

He spent all his money on games, drinking and women.

One night he met Anthony, a nice hardworking guy. Anthony was engaged to Elizabeth, whom he loved very much. They were going to marry soon.

Henry soon approached him and invited Anthony to one of his nights out. Anthony refused, but Henry knew how to persuade someone really well...

They soon became inseparable companions. Every night they would go out to drink and gamble. Anthony’s life gradually began deteriorating. He would loose a lot of money gambling and drinking.

Anthony lost his job, broke off the engagement and kept gambling. Henry laughed at Anthony’s situation, which he helped to build up to.

Once he realized Anthony had no money to go out with him, Henry stopped being friends with Anthony. He left him to his own fate. The years passed by. Anthony disincarnated as a result of addiction, loneliness and misery. He disincarnated nourishing hatred for Henry.

Henry also disincarnated. He went to live in the lower spheres, a place he connected due to his addictive and harmful vibrations. After spending many years there, he regrets his actions and begs God to take him away from that dark place.

His request was sincere and he is then visited by a Spirit of light that tells him he will receive a new opportunity. He will be reborn as the son of Anthony and Elizabeth. He will be poor in this next existence to learn to value material goods; to learn to make good use of them.

The kind messenger also tells him to be patient with Anthony because he hasn’t freed himself from the feelings of hate and revenge.

Henry was then born in this poor family. He soon realized as a child that his father drank too much. Despite having a good heart, he’d loose all the money he earned gambling. His mother tried to maintain her family and worked a lot. She then left Anthony and his brothers alone quite often.

Anthony grew up seeing her father drink more and more. He beat him sometimes when he came home drunk, but never his brothers. Henry couldn’t understand why this persecution happened. But despite all that, he harboured a feeling of love and pity for his poor father. He began to work early in life to help his mother; he studied hard so that someday he’d have a better chance.

He and his brothers grew up. They left their home to take care of their lives, but he decided to stay there; near his parents. He worked really heard to be able to graduate from University and did everything he could to provide a better life for his parents.

Anthony slowly went for a spiritual treatment and began to improve, due his son’s example of kindness and perseverance. One night he came home after work and found his father crying. Anthony hugged his son and asked for forgiveness. He said he wasn’t a good father. He knew he made his family suffer and felt sorry.

Henry also cried and elevated his thoughts and heart in prayer, thanked God for the joy of seeing his father sober and loving. He then told him:

         - Father, don’t regret the past. God is the only one who can judge our actions. We don’t know the plans of life. It falls to us to work honestly, understand and forgive those who live by our side. Let’s not focus on what has happened in the past, as we are now friends. Let us enjoy this peace that only love and forgiveness can bring us.
