"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Jesus said "Blessed are the poor in spirit". He didn’t mean that those who don’t have money are blessed, but the humble; those who do well without ostentation (without telling everybody about it, when you help someone). We must first establish a steady foundation in our lives to conquer the kingdom of heaven: this foundation is humility.

The humble person is the one who can touch the heart of God, recognizing his/her own limitations. The belief in God enables this Spirit to trust in God’s justice and goodness; always doing his part, i.e., striving to become better. Humility is the path to happiness, without doubt.

"Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted."

He speaks of those who mourn the difficulties of life, without revolt, without complaining, without disturbing others. Jesus sees with great joy the evolution of the creatures that, even having difficulties, still try to help others. Their troubles will be eased.

We are children of a loving and just Father, who is not vindictive; so our troubles are the result of our bad choices, not God's will. God doesn’t want his children to suffer, but to learn and evolve, based on the law cause and effect.

"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."

Be gentle: don’t harm, don’t use violence. Spirits who also evolve spiritually shall inherit the Earth, when the planet becomes a world of regeneration.

To be meek is to be patient with all people and in all situations. To be meek is to not be angry for any reason; to not care if someone said this or that about us or took something without asking us.

We are all imperfect, so we must forgive each other. If we start treating the other better, this person will like us more and treat us better too. Meekness gets the person to act, to think about what to do (and not react to situations), bringing happiness to man.

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled."

Hunger and thirst of justice: it is to believe in the justice of God, in his goodness and wisdom. Remember that we reap, inevitably, what we sow. Justice has nothing to do with revenge. When Jesus says "justice," he was referring to being fair in our decisions; to acting according to his teachings, i.e., within the laws, according to his commandments.

Be alert to the present moment: plant seeds of optimism and love to reap tomorrow the sweet fruits of joy and happiness. Each one reaps exactly what he/she sown.

"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy."

Being merciful is to understand and forgive our brother, forgetting the offense. It’s to make this standard practice in our day to day and not hold grievances in life. To act with mercy leads to understanding the limits and flaws of a person, without ceasing to love her, just as God understands our limitations and failures and still to love us.

There are people who can’t apologize because they are full of pride. If you can forgive you are being merciful, because you understand the weaknesses and imperfections of your brothers; who are still imperfect Spirits. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.

"Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God."

To have a clean heart is not to do evil; to desire and to act for the good of everyone. Jesus said he would like the adults to be as children; due to the purity and trust that they surrendered to Him.

An imperfect Spirit is someone who does something wrong or thinks of evil. And what if you just think about evil things? If you can dominate your thoughts and not do evil, this shows progress. Jesus taught and then Spiritism explained that good thoughts generate healthy energy for those who send and receive them. Evil thoughts generate energies that are not beneficial to those who emanate these energies.

Jesus also taught that true health is the one of the soul.

To "cleanse your soul," you have to speak only good things, be positive in what you say, i.e.: speak only good things about your friends; always bring peace and harmony to the places you are.

According to Jesus, this is the true purity; the purity of the soul. Jesus always taught that physical appearance is different from the soul; we always externalize our inner self through our words. He taught us to forgive any offense and not hold grudges, because they contaminate our heart and destroy life.

Every Christian must refuse everything that doesn’t edify; for example, to look at pornography, to keep grief, swearing, etc.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God"

The peacemaker is one who can change the environment, promoting peace wherever he goes; he mediates the relationship between people, in order to keep them in peace.

The peacemaker is recognized as God's son because his eyes are directed to the good things that already exist or those that will still exist; he can see God's purpose in his life and in the lives of others.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

The peacemaker could be compared to the water that extinguishes the fire. Therefore we should seek to live in peace in all situations. We must be true friends to live better in community; so everyone feels happy and help each other to live better. The other, however, also has his will and rights; we must then be peaceful as Jesus taught us. Everything that Jesus taught us is for our good.

We will be happy following the Master’s commandments and will be contributing to bring happiness to the world in which we live.

"Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven"

Many people are prosecuted for acting in accordance with the divine justice; that is, in accordance with Jesus’ teachings. They are persecuted because their opinion is against some situations or opinions that are contrary to Jesus’ teachings.

We also have to respect all religions. Each one has the right to choose the pathway they prefer. It’s important to respect others’ freedom of belief. Don’t argue or try to take anyone out of their way, unless they sought for this change. You should respect to be respected. The ones who were persecuted for following the laws of God will enter the kingdom of heaven, i.e. from the higher realms, because only evolved Spirits live there.

"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before of you."

This beatitude is closely linked to the former, as it refers to live according to Jesus’ teachings. He explains that those who follow his teachings could be misunderstood, criticized, discriminated against, persecuted for their belief, for their correct attitudes. However, they should persevere in the path of goodness. We must remain steadfast in our faith, so we won’t hesitate when facing difficulties, persecution and even death.

Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven (Matthew 10:32 and 33)
