Healing of the Blind Man at Siloe (free adaptation)

When Jesus was in the city of Siloe in Jerusalem, He found a blind man from birth who asked him to be healed. He spat on the ground and made mud of the spittle, and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. Then, the Jesus said to the blind man:
         - Go; wash in the pool of Siloam (as one water spring in the city was called).
Please tell them the word Siloam means sent. You can also mention that, at that time, the cities had pools made of a modest material such as stones. This is where the poorest and sick people would take bathe usually.
The man blind from birth therefore went to the pool of Siloam, washed, began to see and returned seeing. (John 9: 1-23)

Why did Jesus use saliva or mud to heal? Perhaps the ground had an unknown medical benefit and the saliva was the only ingredient available to make mud. It is important to remember Jesus also cured laying hands or simply by saying a few words. It does not matter the resources, but the knowledge about the fluids (energies) used for healing.

Why did He send the blind man to get washed in the pool of Siloam? It could be because after healing the man needed to clean his eyes to be able to see. There is nothing better than water to remove mud.

When Jesus healed this blind man, the apostles asked the Master:
         - Who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered:
         - Neither this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

What can we make of Jesus’ explanation? The blind man was in the spiritual plane before reincarnating in this world (please remind the children that in the spiritual plane this man was not blind). He could have asked to return to the world in this condition to progress quicker and also for Jesus to heal him.
Jesus teaches us with this case that not all pain, illness, physical or mental disability means that the person has made a mistake in the past. He/she could have chosen to go through this challenge in order to evolve quicker spiritually. This could also be a test for the people who live close to this individual.

This case is different from the one of the paralytic at Bethesda which was also cured by Jesus. Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him:
         - See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you. (John 5:1 – 17)
In the case of this paralytic, his physical disability was a consequence of a mistake made in the past.

Please highlight we can not judge people; we should not even want to know what they have done in the past. It is not the true that every person who goes through a physical difficulty is because they made a mistake in the past. Most of the times it is a choice from the spirit that wants to speed up his moral evolution. It is important to have faith and merit. It is also important to change our attitudes so we don’t fall sick again (Please remind them this teaching from Jesus: Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.). We should be grateful when we are cured. If we are not cured it is important accept the situation without complaining (to feel resignation) because this difficulty wants to teach us something important.
